At any time during the year a property owner is welcome to discuss their value with an appraiser; however, the statutory appeal process begins in mid-August when each taxpayer is notified by mail of the assessment placed on any real or tangible personal property.
The TRIM Notice, which stands for Truth in Millage and is also known as the Notice of Proposed Property Taxes, informs Florida property owners of their proposed new assessment, the projected ad valorem taxes and any granted exemptions. This notice is required by statute and its mailing starts the timetable for the appeal process.
